Filed under: Etc. , Natural Gas , Green Daily , India , Tata Tata Motors will send four of its CNG-electric hybrid low-floor Starbuses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for public use during the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The automaker claims that this is the first time hybrid buses of any sort will be used for public transportation in India. In addition, Tata will supply the DTC with a fleet of 600 non-hybrid CNG-powered buses to ferry famous athletes and delegates to the games. Tata Motors’ managing director of India operations, Prakash Telang, commented on the significance of the bus trials and offered gratitude to the government of Delhi, stating: The CNG- Electric Hybrid Tata Starbus is a result of Tata Motors’ advances in alternate fuel technologies, including electric vehicles.

The makeover begins with the development of smaller vehicles, continues with a switch to a lightweight aluminum platform and ends with a splash of hybrid power. Tata Motors’ six-year plan will focus on making the Land Rover name synonymous with efficiency. The upcoming Range Rover will ditch its current BMW-based platform for a purpose-built unit developed by Tata and the 2012 Range Rover Sport will utilize a substantial amount of aluminum to reduce overall vehicle weight .

We have been waiting for the Sub Rs. 100k car in India since about 18 months when the Tata first announced the Tata Nano. After a lot of law suits and time (and Money, ugh!) Tata has commercially launched it Nano Green Car. The Tata Nano was lauched in Taj Mahal Palace & Tower hotel. The Tata Nano is BS-III* compliant and comes with an all-new 2-cylinder aluminium MPFI 624cc petrol engine mated to a four-speed gear box and will be available in three variants. The cars will be on display across the country at Tata Motors passenger car dealerships and other select authorised outlets from April 1. The Car has a 624 cc two cylinder engine and is aided by a 4-speed gearbox. It is certified by the Automotive Research Association of India an amazing 23.6 kpl which is quite awesome for a 1 Lac Car. The booking of the car will begin by April and the Cars will start to ship in July 2009. Here are the Full specifications of the Tata Nano Car:

  • Engine and Transmisson- Cradle and Sub assembly, 32 bit MPFI with five sensors, SOHC, water cooled type.
  • Torque- 48 Nm @ 2500 rpm
  • Power- 33 hp @ 5250 rpm
  • Gearbox- 4 forward and 1 reverse
  • Brakes- All-round Drum brakes
  • Top Speed – 105 Km/hr
  • Mileage – 23.6Kpl

Tata Nano will come in three variations and you can also do Online booking through Internet Banking. The Tata Nano is to be for a down payment of Rs.2999. Booking forms available at centers across 1000 cities. Tata Nano was launched on 23rd March at 4:30 PM IST at The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower in Mumbai. The Tata motors also has plans on launching this sheap car in the US market by 2011 or 2012. Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Motors thinks that his diminutive machine might sell in the United States.  The economy of course will be one of the reasons why Americans will want to compromise on the some og=f the aspects of car and the Version lauched in the U.S will differ in many ways from the version to be sold in India.
