Filed under: Concept Cars , Hatchback , Honda Honda New Small Vehicle Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery Honda is set to pull the sheets off of a the production version of its new sub-compact concept at this year’s Thailand International Motor Expo. Originally seen in concept guise at the New Delhi show earlier this year, the New Small Vehicle Concept is set to take markets in both India and Thailand by storm with its $10,000 price tag and adorable stature. Honda has a long history of showing off “concepts” that are little more than production versions with fancy bodywork, and that appears to be the case here. From what we can tell, the retail hatch will be nearly identical to this show queen. More details on the concept are likely to surface after the New Small Vehicle gets a full unveil later this month. Right now, we don’t know what Honda has planned in terms of drivetrains or whether or not the company will share the new model with the rest of the world. Looks like a mighty-fine Aveo fighter to us.

Manufacturers are required by some motorsport sanctioning bodies to homologate their racecars with production versions, but these often fetch millions of dollars and are only made in extremely limited quantities. All the more so for Sbarro ‘s GT1 show car. Built to celebrate Mercedes ‘ victory at Le Mans in 1999, the GT1 is a one-of-a-kind (well, two of a kind if you could the twelve-cylinder GT12 that followed the next year) concept built using many Mercedes components. The biggest is the 7.4-liter V8 engine producing 450 horsepower – which may not seem like much for such a big engine, but a huge amount of power by any other measure… especially over a decade ago.

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupe , BMW , Electric BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics prototype – Click above for high-res image gallery Sure, BMW is going to build a small, urban electric car – the Megacity – in a few years , but we’re pretty sure there are a lot of Bimmer drivers who won’t much care for that little thing, no matter what the powertrain. For them, BMW has announced a second treat today: the Vision Efficient Dynamics (VED) concept will indeed make the jump to production form. We first saw the VED a little over a year ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 and BMW says the concept was met with an “overwhelming response.” Little surprise, then, that BMW was interested in building this for the people – well, people who can afford the $200,000, give or take, the car will likely cost when it come to market in a few years. Since the VED contained a fair bit of “completely or virtually production-ready components,” BMW is confidently giving out media test drives at the Leipzig trade fair center of a road-ready technology showcase vehicle based on the VED. Final production numbers won’t be known for a while, but the prototype features wing doors and a 2+2 seating arrangement. Underhood, a three-cylinder turbo diesel engine “with a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle” put out a total of 241 kW/328 bhp and hits 0-100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) in just 4.8 seconds. The sleek car can do this while burning just 3.76 litters of fuel per 100 kilometers (a Toyota Prius -beating 62.5 miles per gallon U.S.) and emitting 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Toyota ‘s latest offering here at SEMA proves to us that it can certainly try to look the part. The Prius C&A Custom Concept wears an aggressive, lightweight carbon fiber body kit and rides on 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. What’s more, the C&A has been substantially lowered thanks to a TIEN setup that drops the hatch’s ride height by four inches in front and six inches out back. Four Camaros are hanging out in Las Vegas this week, and each one provides a very different point of view on Chevy’s pony car. The Red Flash Show Camaro is a look-at-me V8-powered coupe that will certainly grab your attention out on the road thanks to its modified intake and exhaust system. On the other end of the spectrum is the XM/Accessory Appearance Package V6 Camaro that goes for a more subtle, not-so-flashy styling upgrade. The Synergy Series Camaro is the second version of a once-per-year limited-edition, and it features interior and exterior colors not available on any other model in the Camaro range. Finally, the SSX Track Car Concept rumbles on to the SEMA floor to tease us with the idea of a purpose-built track-day machine. Simply put, there is no simpler way of getting through crowded city streets, and let’s face it: city streets are only getting more crowded. With that in mind, BMW – one of the few automakers that builds four-wheeled vehicles as well as two – has unveiled its vision for the next generation of large motor scooters, which it calls Concept C. Drawing on decades of experience building full-size motorcycles, BMW Motorrad has delved into the scooter market with a fresh concept that brings familiar design cues from its existing lineup of off-road, touring and sport bikes to a commuter form. In short, BMW is “expanding its present motorcycle adventure world to include the big scooter.” Their words, not ours. Instead of reinventing the wheel as other companies have tried, the Concept C is powered by a conventional two-cylinder engine mated to a continuously-variable transmission, although consideration is being given to future electric powertrains

Filed under: Concept Cars , SEMA Show , Coupe , Hybrid , Honda 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid R Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery Honda has big plans for campaigning a turbocharged, race-bred CR-Z at the upcoming 24 Hours of Thunderhill, and while that car is all kinds of right, it’s about as far from a street-legal machine as a hybrid can get. Fortunately, the company’s engineers and designers have joined forces to give us all an idea what the car would look like in road-going guise with the CR-Z Hybrid R Concept. Like it’s track-only brethren, the concept rocks 200 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque thanks to a little forced induction and an upgraded integrated motor assist system. Throw in a robust clutch, limited slip differential and a fully adjustable suspension and you’ve got the makings for a true sport hybrid. Hit the jump for the press release. The full details on this cop cruiser were released yesterday , but seeing it under the bright lights at SEMA only serves to kick up the nervous anxiety to 11. The man behind the car, Ford designer Melvin Betancourt, says he drew inspiration from the SR-71 Blackbird stealth plane. The blacked-out finish and hidden blue and reds, coupled with the potential for hosting a 365-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood are more than enough to cause speed-limit scofflaws to think twice about pushing harder on that gas pedal. It’s not only the outside that incorporates the idea of stealth design. The interior features a police radio hidden in the console, along with the on-board computer and the glove box has a hidden space to hide weapons. Auto Shows , Renault , South America Renault Sandero Stepway Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery If you’ve ever heard of the Dacia Sandero, it’s probably from Clarkson teasing James May about it on Top Gear . The no-nonsense, bare-bones hatchback – sold alternatively as a Renault in markets where its budget subsidiary Dacia doesn’t exist – is a favorite of Captain Slow. In South America, the Sandero also comes as a crossover version called the Stepway, and taller though it is, it’s just as decidedly spartan. That didn’t stop Renault from drumming up some excitement over the budget range, however, with the show car you see here. Envisioned as a successor to the current model and closer to a junior Duster , the Sandero Stepway Concept dials up the glitz factor just a touch with a sporty body kit, three-tone paint scheme and enough blue LEDs to light up the trendiest of night clubs.
