The black-and-redness you see above is the result. Carbon fiber does duty on spoilers and aprons at the front and back, as well as the grille and trim for the new duct work. It’s definitely… polarizing, but this one-off Maser is certainly less outrageous than some of Mansory’s other creations .

What’s interesting is that this film is really combining the old with the new in the way of characters. Back in action from the original film, The Fast and the Furious are a some familiar faces in the form of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Matt Schulze. From the second film in the series 2 Fast 2 Furious , Tyrese Gibson returns.

Go too far and you could wind up with something that looks like it came from a J.C. Whitney catalog, don’t go far enough and you have what looks to be a halfhearted backyard project. The key to doing it properly is choosing the best accessories that not only compliment the car, but ad functionality as well. Fake hood scoops, fart pipes and air intakes don’t really do it for me, but strap on a nice set of driving lights, and well… you had me at hello.

When it comes to cars, bikes and other gear head objects of desire, there’s usually a fine line between “expensive” and “what are you, on crack?”. I have no problem with Sterling Moss paying $1.7 million for a Porsche RS63 Spyder, since Porsche won’t be making any more of them and the car had a significant racing history. Likewise, if you’ve got the $1 million or so it takes to get into a Bugatti Veyron, I salute you; there probably won’t be another car like it in the history of the world, so now is a good time to pony up if you’ve got the coin. Still, there are times when I run across something for sale that makes me scratch my head and ponder who, exactly, would be dumb enough to spend that kind of money on something.

The Veyron however did something that no other automobile in history was able to do, it made speed chic again. The creation of big gun top speed cars used to be relegated to a few engineers that worked in the back rooms of the manufacturing plants. They would design, tweak and play with existing models to try and push the boundaries of what was capable from their existing platforms and then when getting it right, they would announce it to the world expecting big praise and hoopla. Then Bugatti came along with a car that was designed for one reason and one reason only.

As soon as the Ferrari 599 Spyder post went live this afternoon we started hearing from multiple sources that Ferrari did indeed preview a 599 “Roadster” in Monterey a few weeks ago and that the letter posted on Luxury4Play is authentic. It shouldn’t be that surprising, after all, we did a post predicting the unveiling a while back. Apparently the invitees had to negotiate a tricky path after clearing a security gate to get to the venue. They all had to sign NDAs and their phones and cameras were confiscated.

The VRT is largely an aerodynamics package that promises lighter weight and enhanced down force. Made entirely from carbon fiber composite, the kit includes a carbon fiber roof, redesigned front bumper with new carbon fiber chin spoiler and larger air duct openings. Out back there is also a new rear bumper, rear deck lid and a massive composite wing
