Instead of badging the Rapide as a Lagonda model, the four-door DB9 derivative has come to market instead. Meanwhile, the Lagonda badge was resurrected for an odd crossover concept that, let’s just say, wasn’t warmly received after its unveiling at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show . Subsequent reports indicated that the Lagonda concept – reportedly based on a Mercedes platform – was heading back to the drawing boards. Now, the latest reports indicate a different approach.

What was once an economical Toyota iQ is now a fuel-sipping Aston Martin (weird) with a lavish interior and a price tag that will make your heart skip a beat. We understand that vehicles like this work well in the congested, small-car-friendly cities of Europe, but it remains to be seen if microcars have a place here in the United States. Crazy Rumor of the Day: Lamborghini Estoque to be built in China

Taken straight from Gasgoo.com, which has provided plenty of worthy news in the past, is this nugget: Lamborghini “will import its super luxury four-door sedan, Lamborghini Estoque to China for local production in 2012 with a price tag of around 4 million yuan ($589,000).” To be fair, it appears as though Gasgoo is just reporting on what’s being reported in other Chinese media. However, in case you haven’t been keeping up with the Estoque’s flirtations with production reality, first Lamborghini planned to make it after it was introduced two years ago, then the economic implosion supposedly killed it in early 2009 , but Lamborghini quickly said that wasn’t true , then this month company CEO Stephan Winkelmann hinted about how a third model would help the brand . To us, none of that means the 2008 Paris Motor Show traffic-stopper is going to be built at all.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante

Aston Martin has chosen the much huped Geneva 2009 Auto Show to announce its latest offering, an Aston Martin DBS Volante. Aston has reduced its structural rigidity and added more than 250 pounds to the package, while also carving out room for two more “passengers” and keeping claimed performance the same. The Volante’s electrically operated cloth top disappears under a handsome metal tonneau. Up/down operation can occur at speeds up to 30 mph and takes just 14 seconds. Aston has placed the top’s hydraulic pump in a special enclosure to keep nasty noise and vibration from the occupants.
